Attending: The Climbers, the Walker, the Plodder, 4 paws. Also featuring: The solstice ravers, 2 vociferous cuckoos, several dozen rabbits, 40 billion midgies
Arriving on the Friday evening a light wind allowed for midge free tent pitching. 4 paws found that we were camped in the middle of rabbit central, and the years dropped of him as he explored the entrance to every burrow. It didn’t take long for the breeze to die down and the infernal hordes to appear, so we took refuge in our respective tents. Any thoughts of a good nights sleep were quickly banished with the incessant thump of (alleged) music from a distant corner as young folk welcomed the longest day. By the time they had given up it was time for the cuckoos to take over, making sure that sleep was in short supply.
In the morning the Plodder and 4 paws headed for some dismal distant Corbett, the Climbers set out for the Dubh loch and the Walker made for Lochnagar and an impressive round of five Munros. Needless to say the Plodder was back first, and with a welcome strong breeze he was able to sit out without fear and enjoy a can of beer. Sadly the can of beer exploded in spectacular fashion rendering him sodden and beerless. The Walker appeared, looking surprisingly unaffected by her long walk. Some time around midnight, well after everyone’s bedtime, the Climbers poled up. In the morning they reported that Cyclops (HVS) had been hard for the grade, and also some route finding difficulties. Perhaps the two are linked? In any case, it was a bit of an epic.
Sunday morning was cloudy with rain threatening, so it was back to civilization via the Highlander’s Bakehouse at Crathie.
