Coppermines Meet 4th-5th July

Despite being a fantastic location and having filled the spaces booked in the hut quite quickly, we can’t say this one was the most successful meet of the club.

Big plans were made in advance, both for climbers, hikers and adventurers in general with such a great landscape around the hut… but when the weather decides differently, only the really committed mountaineers venture on the rain!

So finally, only three of us made it to Coniston Saturday afternoon, with enough time, though, to visit the incredible Cathedral Cave. The weather was not inviting for any other adventure than low walks… and underground walks! The team could enjoy this fantastic cave and managed to get some great pictures as well.

Good things about the bad weather are the greater chances of an empty hut for the group’s enjoyment, which is what they did on the evening. In a mountaineering club, as especially in ours, mountains are as important as good meals! It turns out the Coppermines Hut is very comfortable and well-equipped, worth noting for a future better weather meet.

Sunday brought a nicer day, but not that much, though. The team decided a lowland hike was the best idea. The head towards Brathwaite and went up Stile End and Borrow, with their impressive 447m and Barrow 455m of altitude!
