Neil's E Orbea on top of Mount Keen

Glen Cova Meet 9 & 10th October

Is an ascent by electric mountain bike valid? Discuss.

Ten of us headed to Braedownie for the weekend. The weather on Saturday was really stormy with gale force winds. So much so that Gregg had to abandon his attempt to bag the 5 Loch Muick Munros after Lochnagar.

Douglas, Niel and Andrew could hardly make headway into the wind on a cycle up the South Esk valley. Not so much Neil who demonstrated the power of his new Orbea e-bike, managing to reach a high point which his pals could not.

Svetlana and Mark G got some dry conditions for climbing at Kirriemuir, while Mark E and Dave headed to local Red Craig and claimed to have climbed all the moderate routes! And a few harder ones.

We enjoyed a light communal meal on Saturday evening.

Sunday was a lovely day. Most of us headed to Mount Keen as Neil was really keen to see how far up the mountain the Orbea would “take” him.

While Andrew and Mark grunted up the mountain under pedal power, Neil glided up even the steepest sections to near the summit. Niel and Douglas took the sensible option, leaving their tiny 26″ MTBs at the bottom of the hill.

Gregg had a much more enjoyable day bagging Mayar and Dreish.
